South End
Truck Route Study

I will always stand up for Riverside South and Findlay Creek and speak out when proposals could negatively impact our community, traffic network, or quality of life.
The City of Ottawa’s South End Truck Route Study is underway and the City is reviewing how truck traffic moves through Ottawa’s south end as our communities continue to grow. The study is examining potential updates to the truck route network to support goods movement, improve safety, and respond to increasing development pressures.
The City will be hosting a public engagement session in June to hear feedback and ideas from residents, and I encourage you to attend.
Details:
Date: Wednesday, June 17th
Time: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Location: Rideauview Community Centre
City staff will also be showing results from the first survey. They will also be available to answer questions, and address concerns.
One proposal that some have suggested, which raises concern is the idea of diverting more truck traffic from Manotick into Riverside South including additional heavy trucks crossing the Vimy Memorial Bridge.
I do not support shifting truck traffic problems from one community into another. The Vimy Memorial Bridge and Earl Armstrong Road corridor are already heavily used by residents, businesses, OC Transpo, emergency services, and commuters across south Ottawa. The corridor experiences significant congestion during peak periods, and continued residential and commercial growth will place even more pressure on this important connection.
Adding additional heavy truck traffic through Riverside South would create new traffic and safety concerns for residents and could further impact transit reliability along Earl Armstrong Road.
We need long-term infrastructure solutions that address regional transportation challenges fairly and responsibly. That includes exploring additional east-west connections, ring road concepts, and future bridge infrastructure such as a possible Fallowfield Road crossing.
Thank you to the many residents who have already reached out to share their concerns regarding this proposal and to everyone who has taken the time to complete the City’s survey. Resident feedback is important and helps ensure our community’s voice is heard clearly as these discussions continue.
I also encourage residents to contact our local provincial and federal representatives to advocate for the infrastructure investments our growing communities need.
